UPDATE: Wrongful death, excessive force lawsuit filed against Soddy Daisy PD due to officer-involved shooting

UPDATE:  A federal lawsuit has been filed against the Soddy-Daisy Police Department claiming excessive force and wrongful death.

The lawsuit is regarding an officer-involved shooting that happened last September on Harvest Court in Soddy Daisy.

Police were responding to a domestic call when they were confronted by 74-year-old John Sawyer, who reportedly had a weapon.

The lawsuit claims that Sawyer suffered from a state of dementia and that the gun did not have ammunition in it.

It also says when police entered Sawyer's bedroom door, they did not announce that they were police.

The officers were placed on administrative leave when it happened, which is part of the department's police.
