ATHENS, McMINN COUNTY (WRCB) – A chase through several counties and a quick thinking utility worker may have helped deputies in McMinn County solve several burglaries.

Deputies were called to a home at 1315 County Road 750 Tuesday evening on a report of a burglary in progress.

Sheriff Joe Guy says when deputies arrived, they found an Athens Utilities Board truck blocking in a pickup with two people inside.

"The AUB employees live nearby, and the residence being burglarized belongs to one of their family members," said Lieutenant Detective Eric Allman. "When they saw what was happening, they blocked the suspects in and called us."

A third suspect, 37-year-old Jason Curtis fled on foot and caught a ride from an unsuspecting neighbor to Polk County.

With the help of the THP and the Polk County Sheriff's Office, deputies were able to capture Curtis at a home near Delano.

Inside the home in Polk County, deputies say they found evidence tying Curtis to several area burglaries.

Jason Curtis was transported to the McMinn County Justice Center and is being held on a Violation of Probation warrant. He faces charges for burglaries in McMinn and Polk Counties.
