BRADLEY COUNTY, TN (WRCB) A Bradley County Commissioner who resigned will not go to jail.

  Howard Thompson was accused of trying to purchase goods he knew were stolen to sell at his flea market.

  In Criminal Court Tuesday, Thompson pleaded guilty and received a two year suspended sentence.  That means he won't go to jail as long as he stays out of trouble.

  Thompson had been a Commissioner for 17 years.

BRADLEY COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -- Bradley County Commissioner Howard Thompson resigned, Tuesday night, effective immediately.

Commissioners will take nominations and then appoint someone to finish Thompson's term.

Thompson is owner of a Bradley County flea market and is facing theft charges.

Police says he attempted to sell stolen property in January.

A spokesperson for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office tells Eyewitness News that Howard Thompson has been under investigation since December, after a traffic stop revealed stolen property intended for Thompson.

Thompson was indicted by the Grand Jury in January on charges of attempted theft over $1,000 and false report.
